Apple News | Apple to Offer Three Tablet Devices in 2012?

Apple will reportedly offer three separate tablets in 2012: an iPad 3 HD, an iPad 2S, and a discounted iPad 2, according to analyst Ben A. Reitzes with Barclays Capital.

First, Reitzes believes that Apple will keep current iPad around at a discounted price.

Second, he suggests that Apple will release a faster iPad 2, perhaps dubbed the iPad 2S, that will keep the same resolution but offer a faster processor and Siri. This update would be similar to Apple’s update from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 4S.

Third, Reitzes thinks Apple will launch a fully redesigned iPad 3 in March. This device is said to feature a high resolution Retina Display, Siri integration, and an improved processor.

Recent rumors have Apple working with Sharp to create a modified IGZO display for the iPad 3 that will provide 330 dpi while not using IPS or having a dual-bar backlight.

Apple News | iPad 3 to Feature a Modified IGZO Display?

Apple is reportedly working with Sharp to create a modified IGZO display for the iPad 3 that will provide 330 dpi while not using IPS or having a dual-bar backlight, according to Peter Misek, at Jefferies & Co.

Misek believes that Apple has bought between $500 million and $1 billion worth of manufacturing equipment for Sharp’s Gen 6 Kameyama manufacturing facility which will be used to build displays for iOS devices.

Also, we believe that Apple and Sharp together have a modified IGZO (indium, gallium, zinc) technology to achieve 330 dpi, which is sufficient for an HD display while not using IPS nor having to include dual-bar LED backlighting. In our view, this should lead to several design advantages, namely the device can be thinner, battery life should be longer, and the overall experience for users should be meaningfully improved.

The deal between Apple and Sharp is said to account for a big chunk of the company’s $8 billion capital budget for its current fiscal year. Since that number was revealed in Apple’s latest annual report, analysts have been trying to figure out what the 73% increase in spending will be used on.

Misek says, “The IGZO technology is perfect in that it offers near-OLED power consumption while having a lower cost and thinness that is only 25% greater than OLED, based on our checks,”

Apple News | Pod2g Posts Details on How Corona Untethered Jailbreak Works

Pod2g has posted some details on how the Corona untethered jailbreak works.

In a new post on his blog, pod2g notes that Apple has fixed all previous known ways of executing unsigned binaries in iOS 5.0 so Corona had to do it another way.

For Corona, I searched for a way to start unsigned code at boot without using the Mach-O loader. That’s why I searched for vulnerabilities in existing Apple binaries that I could call using standard launchd plist mechanisms.

Using a fuzzer, I found after some hours of work that there’s a format string vulnerability in the racoon configuration parsing code ! racoon is the IPsec IKE daemon (http://ipsec-tools.sourceforge.net/). It comes by default with iOS and is started when you setup an IPsec connection.

Now you got it, Corona is an anagram of racoon :-) .

Pod2g notes that the the ROP exploit payload triggers a kernel exploit that relies on an HFS heap overflow bug he found earlier.

I don’t know exactly what happens in the kernel code, I never figured it out exactly, I found it by fuzzing the HFS btree parser. I just realized that it is a heap overflow in the zone allocator, so I started to try to mount clean, overflowed and payload images in a Heap Feng Shui way :-) And hey, that worked :p Thanks to @i0n1c for his papers on this subject.

Did you ever get annoyed by the On screen Keyboard while reading some text or using an app. I do, because when Keyboard is on the screen I am left with a little space on screen which means i have to scroll more. Well,a new tweak in cydia has just released to get rid of this problem.

This tweak is called pull to dismiss, the working of this tweak is very simple. All you need to do is to scroll down from top to bottom on your screen and your Keyboard will be dismissed. This tweak is useful when you are reading a long note or going through a long conversation in message app. Simply swipe from top to bottom to get rid of the Keyboard.

As posted by the developer:

Dismiss keyboard by scrolling. In apps and views where a scrolling list and a keyboard are shown together, swiping from the list down the face of the keyboard will dismiss it more conveniently. This works in many popular and standard apps.

The best thing about this app is that you don’t need to spend even a single cent to get it. You can download it for from Bigboss repo in Cydia. After installation of this tweak no new icons will be added on your homescreen and you don’t have any options to configure this tweak.
